Smurfit Sheetfeeding of Norwich are part of the large Smurfit Group.
When reviewing their manual handling issues throughout the process of manufacturing corrugated boards, they contacted Palamatic Handling Systems who they had seen at a Trade Show. The particular problem they wanted Palamatic to look at was the handling of pallets from a stack to a pallet loading station. The repetitive nature of the process was seen as a potential manual handling problem. A lifting system was designed to deal with pallets of different sizes (including Euro pallets) ranging from 25-80 kg/ 55-175lb. The Pallets are pushed along a conveyor underneath the corrugated boards and these are then strapped for transportation. The equipment installed was a vacuum lifting system suspended on an ergonomic light-weight aluminium H track gantry system to cover a large work area.
