Materials Handling Solutions for Containment Booths
There are a variety of handling issues within a containment (or downflow) booth. These can be lifting a container from a pallet and lifting to a weighscale or a drum tipper within a booth. (PalPharmaVac, PalPharmAssist, PalPharmaMove). A drum tipper (PalPharmaTip) is used to ergonomically offer product to the operator for emptying and dispensing of the drum or donor container. The drum tipper can also be considered containment equiment aid as the operators safe breathing zone is maintained by not creating shadows in the downward air flow direction of a containment booth. When the PalPharmaTip is equipped with a squeeze funnel and used in conjunction with split butterfly valves the application offers a high containment solution within the booth. The PalPharmaTip can also directly empty product into the hopper or receiving vessel for high productivity discharge with the dust controlled in a safe manner. If the containment booth is used for dispensing then the dispensed product is usually bagged and returned to the pallet using a handling aid. Other common terminology for operations within a containment booth are; subdivision, kitting. sampling, dispensing, weighing and batching.
